SCAF Update – Andrew Gates – Jan 26, 2021

Hello everyone

I hope that you and yours are healthy and safe. Thank you for your patience and understanding this year. I do know that it is very disappointing that we won’t be back on the deck this season, but I know we will all be ready to go once youth sports are allowed to return!

I want to thank CIF for their hard work trying to keep hope alive this year. CIF had a plan in place since last July in preparation for when sports resumed, but unfortunately our local counties did not reach the needed (state mandated) color tier level to allow youth sports to begin anew.

At our SCAF BOD meeting on 1/25/21, we discussed numerous issues, hopefully addressing the concerns many of you had in response to my email last week. There were a lot of unique challenges that we faced in brining this season to a close as well as getting prepared for next season.

1. SCAF Dues: This year (2020-2021), in response to the unique challenges of COVID-19, we reduced your SCAF dues to $80, down from the traditional $100. This temporary decrease was designed to help those who might be struggling financially. As of today, there are no plans for reduced SCAF dues for the 2021-2022 season.

What does this mean? If you paid $80 in dues for the 2020-2021 season, we will roll your dues over until next season (2021-2022) and consider you “paid in full”. No additional charge will apply. If you did not pay your SCAF dues in 2020-2021, your 2021-2022 dues will return to a more traditional amount.

If you would like your money returned for the 2020-2021 season we can accommodate you, but you will incur a $5.00 transaction fee. You will also need a Zell or PayPal account.

I recommend, unless you know you will not be officiating in the future, that you agree to leave your money with SCAF. This will ensure you “save” on next season and avoid processing and registration fees.

2. Colored Tier System play: With the state of California removing the “stay at home” order, theoretically fall sports could return IF the county where a school is located reaches the appropriate color tier (water polo needs to be in the orange tier). In reality, the chances are very minute that this will occur, but we want to have a plan in place in case your county reaches the appropriate tier color (I hope it does!!). If this happens, each local area Board of Directors will decide the proper course of action. If sports resume in your county, any ref who would be considered to officiate the few games available, would have to meet the requirements of a “member in good standing” for your area. Each area President and Board of Directors will be in charge of determining who is eligible and help them complete Clinic #5, as well as any COVID-19 protocols that the schools may require. Please note that at the time of this email, we have NO idea what protocols might be put in place by local high schools.

3. Local elections: Local elections will be held according to each areas’ by-laws. The SCAF Board of Directors will not overrule any areas election by-laws due to COVID-19. Members in good standing by 2/28/2021 are eligible to vote in the upcoming elections and / or run for elected office. Pleaes contact your area President with any questions that you may have.

4. Rule Books: If you have received a rule book this season, please keep it! Supplies are low and you will not be able to get a replacement.

Thank you for the privilege of being your SCAF President this year. I look forward to being back on the deck with you all soon. Undoubtedly more questions will arise and we will continue to do our best to address them quickly.

Have a great day and we’ll see you on the deck soon.

Sincerely,

Andrew Gates, President
SCAF WP Board of Directors

SCAF Registration – 2020/21

We are accepting member renewals on the Arbiter Sports website. Dues are $80. Detailed instructions are here.

Please note that until you have renewed, you cannot be assigned games. If you are experiencing financial hardship and have difficulties paying your SCAF dues, please do not hesitate to reach out to Tiffany Spiritosanto, SCAF BOD Membership Chair, so that we can work together on a solution.
